How I work
I don't need a presentation. I need to sit in.
So I'm a researcher. I love research. Instead of waiting for a polished slide deck, I sit in on a couple of your meetings, talk with staff, and ask my questions. I do warn people: I'm a grant writer, and my questions are invasive. That's how I find out which tools people are really using, where your donor and customer data ends up, and which jobs are eating your team's week.
What's included
Five things you walk away with.
Governance and policies
What your organization allows today, written or not, and what's missing. That includes AI that acts on its own, like an agent that sends the email or updates the record without a person clicking "go."
Data readiness
Where your data lives, who can see it, and whether any of it is going into free tools that train on what you type. Dropping last names while keeping phone, email and address doesn't count as anonymizing it.
Every tool, mapped
A list of every AI tool your people use, paid and free, so you can centralize on the accounts you control.
Workflow opportunities and risk
The monotonous work AI should take first (admin, follow-up, data entry, reminders) and the work that should stay human, like grant narratives and donor appeals.
A roadmap written for your board
A scored report and a plain-language plan your board and staff can both follow, so you know what to fix first.
Price
More than a checklist. A fraction of an enterprise engagement.
Free online checks score whatever answers you give them. Enterprise consulting firms start in the tens of thousands. This assessment sits in between: $5,000 to $8,000, depending on how many teams and sites are involved, with a fixed quote before we start. Nonprofits that want to go deeper on AI agents can pair it with the Agentic Governance Framework.
Case note
An international nonprofit with sites in several countries.
They wanted to know how ready they were for AI that acts on its own. With a policy specialist, I assessed authority boundaries, human review, data readiness and risk across every site. Every AI tool they used got mapped, and all of their sites now work from one data security standard. Read the case notes →
Questions
AI readiness assessment FAQ
What does an AI readiness assessment include?
Governance and policies, data readiness, the workflows where AI would help, the risks to watch, and a roadmap written for your board. I sit in on meetings, interview staff, and map every AI tool your people already use.
How much does an AI readiness assessment cost?
$5,000 to $8,000, depending on the size of your organization and how many teams and sites are involved. You get a fixed quote before anything starts.
How is this different from a free online AI readiness check?
A self-serve check scores the answers you give it. I go find out what is really happening: which tools staff are using, where donor or customer data goes, and where AI is already acting without anyone checking it.
